There are 114 billionaries in Latin America – and between them they are worth $440 billion, according to a new Forbes report released on Wednesday.

Topping the Latin American billionaires list is Mexican telecommunications magnate Carlos Slim, who is also second on the Forbes list of world’s richest people. Slim is worth $72 billion.

Second on the list is Brazilian Jorge Paulo Lemann, of 3G Capital, at $19.7 billion. His company has a stake in Burger King, Heinz and Anheuser-Bush InBev.

Brazil in fact tops the list in the number of ultra wealthy Latin Americans with 65 billionaires. Lemann’s other two private equity partners are also on the list.

Mexico ranks second in the number of billionaires from the region, and Chile is third.

Six of the richest 25 latino americanos made their fortunes on beer. Other industries on the list are telecommunications, mining, banking and media. Three of the top 25 are women, including the 4th richest, Chilean Iris Fontbona, whose family made their fortune in the mining industry. [NBC]
