Diego Boneta signs on for new thriller “In the Blood”

Diego Boneta may have made teen girls swoon with his sweet ballads in “Rock of Ages” this summer, but his next film is about to show off a slightly darker side.

Boneta, whom fans may remember best for his stint on telenovela “Rebelde,” has just signed on to join the cast of “In the Blood,” a John-Stockwell-directed drama about a desperate woman, Ava (played by Gina Carano), who embarks on a mission to find her husband after he’s been kidnapped during their South American honeymoon. According to Deadline.com, Boneta will play Manny, “a local who ends up joining Ava on her search.”

It’s just the latest in a string of successes for the 21-year-old Mexico City native. Boneta received an ALMA award for “Favorite Movie Actor” in September and soon after, began heating up the small screen on the MTV hit show “Underemployed.”

“It’s been an amazing transition from doing TV in Mexico to doing Hollywood movies,” Boneta told NBC Latino about being a crossover success.

“This has always been a dream of mine, ever since I was a kid watching movies.” [NBC]
