Juanes, Juan Luis Guerra rock the house in Sandy benefit concert

The Barclays Center in Brooklyn was jumping Saturday night as men and women of all ages swayed their hips, belted their favorite tunes and rocked out, all for a great cause.

Juanes and Juan Luis Guerra’s Hurricane Sandy benefit concert  raised $150,000 for the American Red Cross.

“After the hurricane passed through this area we thought it was the right thing to do,” Juanes said. “We are happy to be here, this is the right thing for us.”

The audience could expect “a lot of energy and party,” Juanes said. “We hope people enjoy it.”

And enjoy it they did. A multitude of musical tastes were in play last night as the air was filled with sounds ranging from rock and reggae to merengue and salsa.

Each singer played a one hour set and they played two songs together.

Juanes started the show with one of his old school songs, “Fijate Bien.” He also played crowd favorites such as “La Camisa Negra” and “Azul Sabina,” song from his new Latin Grammy-winning album “Tr3s Presents Juanes: MTV Unplugged.”

Before giving up the floor, Juanes invited “El maestro Juan Luis Guerra,” to the stage.  The duo sent the crowd a message of peace, love and change with the song “Odio Por Amor.”

Guerra then took the stage with the song “La Travesia,” which had everyone dancing as he unleashed crowd-pleasing merengue moves.

Guerra and his acclaimed group 440 also played hits like “La Bilirrubina” and “En El Cielo No Hay Hospital,” from his new album “Colección Cristiana.”

The night was a huge success for Sandy relief and for the crowd itself, who didn’t want to go home as they chanted, “Otra, otra, otra!” (Encore, encore, encore!)  by  [NBC]
