Salma Hayek snags prestigious German award

Salma Hayek is known for always looking stylish, but even she knows that the best accessory is a shiny gold trophy.

The 46-year-old former telenovela star has just been given a Bambi award – German’s highest media honor – for her film work. As the first Latino to ever make it on to the jury’s list of nominations, Hayek took home the winning trophy in the international film category.

Hayek’s long list of film credits include titles ranging from comedy (“Here Comes the Boom”; “Grown Ups”) to the biographical drama “Frida,” for which she was nominated for an Oscar in 2002, and animated features like “Puss in Boots.”

The awards – held Nov. 22 in Dusseldorf, Germany – was attended by fellow A-listers like Celine Dion and international boy band One Direction. Hayek stunned at the event, wearing a floor-length Saint Laurent black dress with plunging neckline trimmed with gold.

“It’s so hard to find films that you can laugh to with your entire family and I think knowing that made this experience special,” Hayek told NBC Latino about filming her most recent film, “Here Comes the Boom.” I know I love to go to the movies and forget about the problems of the world with my family.”

And the Mexican actress has no intention of stopping: her latest venture includes a dip in to the world of beauty products, with the release of chip-resistant nail polishes called Nuance.
